As a drow adopted into a high elf family, Fynley Dormire always struggled with his identity. Fynley fell in with an eccentric group of four other adventurers during his bardic studies in Waterdeep while doing some clandestine work for Bregan D'aerthe. Working closely with Jarlaxle and the other adventurers, Fynley sought to gain Jarlaxle's favor and joined Bregan D'aerthe as a member. Jarlaxle took a keen interest in Fynley, later revealing that Jarlaxle was one of Fynley's professors in disguise that pushed Fynley towards Bregan D'aerthe. More to Fynley's surprise, Jarlaxle revealed that Fynley was the third son of Jarlaxle's sister, Matron Mother Quenthel Baenre. Jarlaxle prevented Fynley being sacrificed to Lolth, bringing him to the surface. Fynley became fully committed to his Uncle and began training in martial combat. But when Jarlaxle tested Fynley's resolve by ordering him to execute a traitor, Fynley refused, much to Jarlaxle's chagrin. With this falling out, Fynley sojourned to the mountains where he claims to have found his center after time at a monastery. Though he always has his violin, Fynley has become devoted to his blades and pistol, perhaps in hopes of one day besting Jarlaxle, but for now content to follow his own path.
