The Battle Against Tchazzar

Greetings! Here's an art commission of a D&D party having an epic battle against an Ancient Red Shadow Dragon, Tchazzar. The narrative goes "As they party approaches, Tchazzar can be seen siting upon the through, now in the guise of feeble old man draped in black and red robes..." After some discussion, the party initiated the attack then Tchazzar transformed into his true form to fight.

In this scene, I painted the dragon diving into the party, breathing a heavy concentrated fire. While the party were preparing an attack, evading and fighting shadow elementals. The battle was held in Tchazzar's throne room on top of a tower, high enough to reach the sky.

The characters from top moving counter-clockwise:

Tchazzar, the BBEG - painted in a different version.

Scribbs, Captain of the Gilgamesh - a tiefling storm sorceress along with her blue tabby cat.

Davros (far), Half-elf barbarian and a former sorcerer.

Jasiir of the Deep Wood, a fighter druid from the Gilgamesh.

Gell, a Bloodhunter, Half-Orc Barbarian. Transformed into a hybrid bear & half-orc.

Shadyne Shadowslayer, an elegant human fighter.

Dewey Longshanks, a Druid Doppleganger.

Vulpecula, a former aasimar, transformed into a half-devil castor/bard by the same devil the party fought.

About the artwork, it's a digital painting that took me 2 months to complete. I started with studying the character's descriptions and details. After gaining some ideas, I created 3 sketches with different angle & poses for the client to choose from. Then I created the character's concept art each approved by the client.

The dragon which I revised 4 times, was the most challenging stuff. I wanted it too look big in the scene at the same time, doesn't compromise the images of the 7 party members. The scales, well you know how it works. I had to paint them 1 by 1 some with high details and some with less.

For the background, I went on a simple obsidian throne, with spiked figures at the back. The sky, which I made cyan, for me is a good contrast to the dragon itself.

Thank you and I hope you will enjoy the artwork!
